Stubborn and proud of it?

Question:  Family and friends often tell me I’m too stubborn.  But I’m a very confident person. Is being stubborn really such a bad thing?

Answer: Being confident in your decision-making might work well for many in leadership positions. But actually being just outright stubborn could lead to trouble in many other situations. For example, to move a needed project forward at work, the boss might have to just go with the idea he thinks would work best even if many of his employees repeatedly try to convince him to do something different.  If his idea works, great!  But if his stubbornness in doing things only his way fails, his company profits might be hurt or his good employees might quit.

It’s also true that being stubborn about some things could lead to negative consequences.  Say a person spends all the money she makes each month because she  buys too many things she doesn’t need and puts nothing in savings. She knows better, but is too stubborn to stop overspending. Without savings she could quickly get into credit card debt she can’t afford to pay off. She charges up her credit cards because she doesn’t save up to be able to pay for unexpected expenses like car repairs and medical costs.  Not good!

Or, the doctor tells a person, he needs to lose weight and exercise because he is developing health problems. But the person decides to be stubborn and continue eating whatever he wants and doesn’t exercise. He ends up getting really sick as a result.  Also not good!

But what if your stubbornness leads to a far more serious consequence — like spending an eternity in hell because you decide you don’t need God?  You continue to reject God even though you’ve heard and understood verses such as John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)  You also know that Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6.)

Many times over the years, you have heard various people give you the Gospel message. So you understand that our sins keep us separated from a Holy God. You’ve been told that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, died on the cross to take the punishment we deserve for our sins. Jesus rose again on the third day and lives at the right hand of God in Heaven. Those who accept Jesus as their Savior receive God’s Holy Spirit to live inside them, guiding them and comforting them as they face their lives each day.

While it’s true that God has given each of us “free will” to accept or reject Him, it’s also true that rejecting Him will lead to your eternal damnation in hell!  So, this is definitely one time that being stubborn and proud of it by rejecting Jesus Christ as your Savior will cost you badly forever!

Stop being stubborn and make the right choice… before it’s too late!
